Wanted: Trainee Assistant Operators at Sappi

Sappi Southern Africa is offering opportunities to matriculated candidates who are interested in learning about the paper making process.This is a wonderful opportunity for matriculates to secure an entry level position in which we will be able to provide you with work specific training lasting 18 – 24 months during which your performance will be assessed before possibly securing a permanent position. These opportunities are based in the Western Cape.

Whether you’re mild or wild at heart, you could have what it takes to work in forestry. Sappi is a producer of coated woodfree paper which is used in publications such as annual reports, catalogues, brochures and magazines.


Matric with subjects Maths and Science


Trainees must be prepared to assist with a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

  • The cutting of wires off paper bales, cleaning and dusting off of machine panels, sweeping and hosing floors,
  • The pulling and/or feeding of broke (off cuts of paper),
  • Strapping and stenciling of paper reels,
  • Assisting at various sections in the paper mill, etc.


  • Willing and prepared to work hard and long hours (shift work)
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Prepared to learn new skills
  • Show initiative
  • Have good verbal and communication skills
