Wanted: Library Computer Assistant (Cyber Cadet) – uMshwathi Municipality

uMshwathi Municipality, with its legislative and administrative seat in New Hanover, seeks the services of a suitably qualified person for the position of Library Computer Assistant (Cyber Cadet).

Duration: 1-year contract – renewable annually, subject to grant funding.

Salary: R90 000 per annum


  • Matric/Grade 12 and CompTiA accredited A+
  • Certification (N+ will be an added advantage)
  • Provable, practical skills
  • Knowledge and experience of computers, word processing, the Internet and e-mail .
  • Basic understanding of maintaining and trouble-shooting Windows XP operating system software, PC and printer hardware (working on Windows 7 will be an added advantage)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Qualification and work experience in a library environment will be an added advantage
  • Willingness to work according to set library hours, including Saturdays.

Key performance areas:

  • Assist and train library users in basic computer skills and Internet searching
  • Promote and develop computer services to the public
  • Administer the usage of computer services in the library . Monitor PC, printer and connectivity hardware and software
  • Ensure policies for usage and security are adhered to by the library
  • Ensure the library is effectively managed
  • Be responsible for counterwork administration
  • Control library material
  • Supervise staff
  • Be responsible for promotional function
  • Manage stock selection, stock development and extension of library services
  • Be responsible for book exchange, maintenance and budget control
  • Ensure outreach activities and programmes are organised , Report to the Librarian under the supervision of the Information Systems Manager.
