Wanted: Enviromental Monitors at the Kruger National Park

SANParks’ Kruger National Park is looking for Enviromental Monitors to be employed on fixed term contract basis.

There are 23 vacancies that are existing for Environmental Monitor-Conservation assistance- positions in the Kruger National Park; they are based at various Ranger Posts inside the park.

NB. All applicants must note that there will be several processes that they will have to undergo before final appointments can be made; i.e. interviews, medical screening, selection course followed by the actual training for those that shall have passed the selection course (physical training), and placement. The rest will be placed on a waiting list in case vacancies become available, when they might be considered in the sequence according to their performance during the training course.


  • Matric plus relevant applicable experience, preference will be given to applicants with Nature Conservation Diploma Certificates
  • Experience in report writing
  • Fully computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages such as Word, Excel, Access and Power Point
  • A valid code 08 driver’s license
  • Excellent communication skills (English), both written and verbal, and report writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • The candidate must be physically strong and healthy (medical certificate of fitness)
  • Police Clearance for Criminal Record

The incumbents’ responsibilities will include the following:

  • Implements the National Parks Act and regulations in conjunction with the Section Ranger
  • Undertakes routine patrols by means of foot, bicycle or vehicle
  • Writing reports to inform key deliverables
  • Communication, Liaison and Reporting to Section Ranger
  • Assists the Section Ranger with monthly administrative and other tasks
  • Gathers conservation related information and reports back on it
  • Executes anti-poaching operations, including field deployments
  • Assists with other conservation tasks including Alien Plant Control
