The eThekwinin Municipality is looking for a Learner Electrical Technician to undergo training, perform work and undertake projects and tasks as a Learner Technician in relevant technical areas.

Salary: R9 652.34 (Min) – R12 529.73 (Max)

Key Responsibility Areas:

  • Develop and understanding of safe working procedures .
  • Know how to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Undertake fault findings.
  • Know how to install,operate and maintain motor/generators and allied control systems.
  • Develop a good understanding of lighting and illumination systems,control gear allied to such equipment.
  • Be able to undertake electrical installation work.
  • Understand energy management principles.
  • Develop an understanding of programmable logical controllers (PLCs).
  • Undertake training in basic welding.
  • Participate actively in practical field work,such as cable jointing,overhead line construction and substation construction.
  • Acquire the knowledge of battery chargers,battery banks and battery systems.

Essential Requirements:

  • Completed the theoretical requirements, namely the S4, of the National Diploma in Electrical
  • Engineering or Electronic Engineering from a University of Technology accredited by the Council for Higher Education.
  • Pass a proficiency test set by the department to prove sufficient general knowledge of electrical and or electronic engineering fundamentals.

Preffered Requirements:

Practical experience in the electrical and or electronic engineering field.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be physically capable of carrying out all the duties of the post
  • Must be physically fit and in good health as determined by the City Medical Officer of Health .
  • Must not be colour blind. 
  • Must be able to climb ladders and lattice structures and work at heights
  • Must be able to physically lift heavy objects and equipment normally required of a Technician
  • Must have the necessary dexterity to work with tools and instuments.
