Economist Internship Programme at the Bureau for Economic Research

The Bureau for Economic Research (BER) at Stellenbosch University and the South African Reserve Bank wish to announce the commencement of recruitment for the 2016 economist internship programme at the BER.

The primary objective of the internship programme is to provide practical training to an appropriately qualified previously disadvantaged individual so that he/she is able to function as an economist in the private and/or public sector. The successful candidate will work alongside BER economists for one year to gain experience in all the aspects of business orientated macro-economic analysis.

The successful candidate will be employed by the South African Reserve Bank, but will spend the first year of employment in training at the BER. The intern will receive a competitive salary, even during the internship year at the BER.

Candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Qualify as a previously disadvantaged individual
  • Hold an Honours or Masters degree in Economics (by January 2016)
  • Be fluent in English
  • Possess excellent communication and writing skills

Interviews will be held during August and September. The internship will start in January 2016 and end in December 2016.
