Bursary Programme at Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) 2016

The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) would like to invite applications for bursaries for the 2016 intake from financially needy learners who excelled in Maths and Science in Grade 11 and Grade 12, who internd to study towards a career in the mining and minerals sector.

The MQA Bursary Programme is open to qualifying Grade 12 learners or those currrently writing their 2015 Grade 12 examinations. Students studying towards a degree, diploma or BTech at a University, University of Technology or Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College may qualify. The bursary covers full tuition, accommodation, meals and book allowances.

The MQA is a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) for the mining and minerals sector in terms of the Skills Development Act, No 97 of 1998.

The Programme finds the following

Disciplines at Universities or Universities of Technology:

  • Mining Engineering
  • Jewellery Design and Manufacturing
  • Electro Mechanical
  • Mining Survey
  • Environmental Health and Management
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Metallurgical Engineering (Extractive only)
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Rock Engineering
  • Geology
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Any BTech qualifications associated with the disciplines/course listed above

Trades at TVET Colleges:

  • Diesel Mechanic
  • Fitting including Machinery
  • Boilermaker
  • Millwright
  • Fitter  and Turner
  • Electrician
  • Rigger Ropesman
  • Instrumentation Mechanic

NB: Preference will be given to female learners, learner with disabilities and learners living in rural communities.
