Apprenticeship / Learnership Programme at SAA Technical 2016

South African Airways (SAA) Technical is inviting young South African citiznes to apply for their Apprenticeship / Learnership training programme (As advertised in the Sunday Times on 7 June 2015).

Deadline for applications is 19 June 2015 at 15h00

SAA Technical operates from extensive premises at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa, servicing not only the domestic market but also regional and global customers.

Selection criteria will be of the highest standard so as to attract the best suitable talent available.


  • Passed Grade 12 with at least a “D” symbol on higher grade or a “C” symbol on standard grade or a minimum of Achievement Level 4 or equivalent on both Mathematics and Physical Science OR
  • Passed N3 with at least a D symbol for both Mathematics and Engineering Science
  • Must a hold a South African citizenship
  • Must be aged between 18 – 35 years
  • Must have not criminal record
Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to a psychometric and medical assessment: background and security clearance as part of the selection process check.

The following trades are offered. In order of preference, state two trades which you are interested in:

  1. Aircraft Mechanical: Maintenance of Airframe and Power-plant
  2. Aircraft Structures: Maintenance of Aircraft Structure
  3. Aircraft Welding: Weld, repaid aircraft, engine components, plasma spray, heat-treat, manufacture parts, tooling per manufacture and repair.
  4. Aircraft Spray Painting: Corrosion prevention, repair of paint coatings, application of protective coatings and paint decoration of interior and exterior  of an aircraft.
  5. Aircraft Composite Structures: (1) Repair, rework and rebuild all composite interior and exterior components. (2) Rework aircraft acrylic windows.
  6. Aircraft Electroplating: Repair and refinish aircraft parts and components with electroplating, anodising and surface treatment process.
  7. Aircraft Turner Machinist: (1) Manufacture, repair and rework of aircraft componets. (2) Manufacture and repaid aircraft related tooling.
  8. Aircraft Trimming: Manufacture, repair, inspect and maintain all types of aircraft interior components and maintaining of survival equipment
  9. Avionics: (1) Electrician – Maintain electrical system in a variety of aircraft (2) Radiotrician – Maintains, repairs, troubleshoots and test all radio communication and navigation equipment (3) Instruments – install, adjust, test, maintain and repair instruments, compass swing and passenger service units.
