Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) only provides vacation employment to its bursary holders. Every December, RBM’s bursary holders work for the company for around seven weeks. Each bursar is allocated a mentor who is a specialist in his or her field, who will coach and give direction to the bursary holder during their stay at RBM.
Palabora may employ its bursars, as well as a limited number of potential bursars during the mid year holidays (June-July for a minimum of four weeks) and/or year end holidays (December-January for a minimum of six weeks. The aim of this vacation employment is to provide practical training; to help Palabora overcome skills shortages by offering employment to students who could ultimately work for the company; and to help cover vacancies caused by leave of absence.
