Internship (co-operative training) programme
A typical BP internship programme offers applicants the opportunity to be trained in their discipline of study and in all key areas of BP’s business and the opportunity of a career at one of the world’s major energy company. Candidates must be localized for the African regions/country that they apply to.
The Internship programme is an opportunity to provide work experience to a student, integrating the student’s academic studies with work experience. This programme aims to identify suitable interns who could be considered for the Internship programme.
What does the programme entail?
Internship is applied learning integrating a student’s academic studies with work experience. The typical plan is for students to alternate periods of experience in appropriate fields of business and professions. Students are remunerated according to their academic and work discipline.
A minimum timeframe will be stipulated for the total work, but successful completion is determined by the attainment of predetermined skills and competencies, both quantitatively and qualitatively. BP, together with the institutions of higher learning, will develop learning objectives. These objectives enable students to extend their classroom learning into the workplace. The objectives are outlined in the study programme and are directly related to the work experience. BP, together with the participating institution, will monitor and assess the student’s progress on the job.
What talent do we want to recruit?
We target the top final year or post-graduate students who need to complete an internship / practical training before qualifying. We target learners who:
- Meet our Employment Equity or Diversity requirement for each business unit;
- Have good academic records and achievements;
- Come from recognised and accredited institutions of higher learning;
- Demonstrate leadership potential and drive for business results
Duration
The duration of the internship training varies from institution to institution and from discipline to discipline, but range mostly from two months to a year.
